Meet Dave Thompson – our new Wellington Region General Manager

Dave Thompson’s 17 year old son gave him good advice about this opportunity.

“Just do it Dad! It’s your dream job. Your passion.”

Dave’s son was right. While working as a regional sales manager in the grocery industry over the past few decades (including for Frucor, Goodman Fielder, Tip Top Bread) Dave was involved in the Graeme Dingle Foundation in a voluntary capacity. Very involved!

Over the past 20 years he has mentored 10 students on the Project K programme, and for the last 17 years has been a trustee and deputy chair of the Graeme Dingle Wellington Region Trust, and its predecessor organisation.

So significant has Dave’s contribution been that he was awarded the Outstanding Volunteer Award by the national organisation in 2015.

Said Dave: “Working with young people and helping made a positive difference in their lives is a real passion of mine. It’s a privilege to be involved with the Graeme Dingle Foundation, especially being able to see the positive results in students and positive changes in all aspects of their lives.”

Dave hails from Taranaki, and credits his parents with instilling in him the values of “being there to help other people”. While growing up he was involved in search and rescue work, and was president of the Taranaki Mountain Safety Council for three years.

The Graeme Dingle Wellington Region Trust is thrilled to have Dave leading our organisation. Said chair Peter Irwin: “ We know that the role of Regional General Manager requires a special person,  with a multitude of skills, which Dave has.  But more importantly, it is his passion for helping our young people become the best they can which is so important in helping us achieve our goal of transforming young lives forever.”
